When it comes to Wedding Gift Protocol, White Stole is a big fan of Bridal Registries for how they simplify gift-hunting for family members of the bridal party, often eliminating duplicate gifts, but also serving as an easy way to direct Wedding Guests to their end-goal of the perfect Wedding Gift.

However, we have definitely entered a New Era of Weddings!  Now, in our most modern and free Wedding Culture, you have permission to choose your own gift.  Yes, you do!  And often the most memorable gifts are those that guests select themselves.

The truth is, choosing gifts from the registry isn’t good enough for many people these days - especially for those people closest to the Bride who want to get her something extra special and personal.  Close friends want to signal that they know something about, or have a special relationship with their Bride, and thus want to choose something more special than those who buy from the Registry.  Close girlfriends are less likely to buy things her Bride needs from the Registry, and instead opt for presenting her with something she may secretly desire.

Consequently, with utter enthusiasm, White Stole is here to help you bring something inspiring to the Bride and her Wedding Party!   And to boost your gift-giving motivation, take a sneak peak at a recent photoshoot of White Stole’s Curator and Stylist sporting a dazzling Silk Stole from the White Stole Gift Collection!

We recommend that you go with the style you know your Bride to have, complementing her style, OR, for max fun splurging on a Luxe, Couture and FABULOUS Silk Stole Wrap in an unexpected color or design,  Your personal “Wedding Wishlist-for-your-Best-Girlfriend” is what she will adore!

And YES!….you do need to send a gift to a wedding you can’t attend.  And if your Bride is a close friend of family member, yes!, it is good etiquette to give her a Wedding Gift for her second wedding.  Ideally you should send it to your Bride ahead of time in the event she wants to incorporate it into her Photoshoot, Honeymoon, or Wedding Day plans.

And YES!...it is really tacky to just give cash even if many couples wouldn’t be offended.   So go ahead, take a risk and give the kind of luxury that will warm her heart…and shoulders!

At White Stole’s pricing you needn’t feel “too generous” because our Direct-to-You pricing brings Couture to you at its most affordable - but we do encourage you to splurge on your special lady!

White Stole’s influential Italian Luxury Couture Silk Wrap design and production of printed, solid and yarn-dyed luxury Women's Wraps in silk or cashmere use the traditional, heritage-based hand-dyed and silk-screened custom-manufacturing process that has long been used by our manufacturing companies in Como, Italy since 1945. The meticulous workmanship of our Silk Stoles are guaranteed to last a lifetime with proper care.

Whether you are having or attending a Country, Garden, City Chapel, Island Resort, Beach Wedding, or Gala Event,  if you are in need of a Luxe Bauble  for yourself, or that will serve as a ‘Thank You’ or ‘Adore You’ Gift for your Bride or Bridesmaids, look no further than the luxury-approved curation White Stole has spent hours putting together.

The unexpected sets of Italian hand silk-screened, inspired colors and designs in White Stole's Silk "Gift" Stole and Shawl Wrap Accessories Collection  will rock any bride and her guests past the ceremony and on into her lifetime.  We have picked the perfect designs that will be cherished - and used -forever!

We have seen them on last year’s runways, but again in 2014 the world’s top Bridal Collections are truly outstanding with their renewed emphasis on elegance…and the Stole: irreplaceable for the Bride who wants to feel like a fairy Princess on her “I do” day.

Reserved for true dreamers, this “Must-Have” accessory gives a royal touch to the wedding - a Princessly allure that each of us look for on the big day.  An elegant detail, light and sinuous, capable of enchanting a Bride’s guests during her triumphant walk down the aisle.  Short or long, the Stole is present in all variations, Silk Chiffon, Silk Satin, Silk Cashmere, Silk Twill, Silk Tulle, Silk Lace, in white, pastel, black or bold colors, floral and graphic patterns fastened with or without the adornment of a broach.  Extremely light, the Silk Chiffon Stole, in particular, lends an elegant touch that gives fluency to the bride’s every movement unlike any other fabric or accessory - whether draped over neck, shoulder or arm, or tied in the back and draped forward over the shoulders.  For the Modern Bride, the sky’s the limit on her style choices of Silk Stoles!

Even more sophisticated, is the Silk Stole with Lace Embroidered patterning, or in the form of a Vintage Tulle. The Stole becomes an essential accessory for every respectable bride, useful to hide necklines, and, when the time is right, reveal them and enjoy the party.  Truly infinite are the combinations of materials for those who are always chilly and love sheer covering over a strapless gown as they move from church to reception or dining room, or across a ballroom floor.  From the sheerest Chiffon to Silk-Cashmere blends to Tulles that give soft volume and silhouette, the Stole’s transparence and delicacy enriches the shoulders with grace and elegance.

It is well- known that the details in your wedding accessories make the difference!  Viva La Difference~!

How To Style A Wedding Photoshoot  (hint: hold the wind!)

10/11/2014

Perhaps the most important step in the photoshoot process is creating a vision of the inspiration I want my photos to convey.  As a stylist, I choose a theme or a look for the shoot after much study into the the moods and emotions my collection conveys in a particular setting to make sure the overall result is successful.  If I were a bride, I would also choose a theme or look to ensure I am creating a look that is unique, and my result will bring me images to treasure.  I have found that a critical part of this first process comes in articulating my vision to the photographer and models involved so that our look is cohesive, and we end up with very strong images that exude the confidence of our vision – whether my vision is a beach, garden or open field setting.

Which brings me to the subject of how I have chosen the collaborators I have:  of course, working with people who have interest in my photoshoot is essential, but the photographers and models must also be people I know and trust to carry through on the execution of the project to the end.  Finding talented people around a city like Seattle is not difficult, but gaining their enthusiasm and commitment to the project is best attained by managing everyone’s expectations ahead of time as to what you need from each of them – whether model or photographer – to ensure successful images as a result.  Offering images to those involved can help offset the fact that they have given of their time “gratis.”

Nothing matters more than taking time, time and more time to ensure you get the exact photos and views you desire.  Since I am creating this shot from ground zero, deciding on the location, the time of day, the garments to be styled and the arrangements, I have complete control of the photoshoot at this point.  I typically travel out to the proposed location to confirm setting, photo angles, lighting, distractions and more prior to the day of the shoot.  This preparation step allows me to make changes or take advantage of unusual offshoots of my original idea, change time of day, and ensure a more perfect shot or subject lighting.  I love being in control of the details, and at this point, I am able to use them completely to my advantage.

Speaking of the details….didn’t someone once say the “devil is in the details?”  Indeed!  It isn’t long into the photoshoot that I realize that if I hadn’t taken time to walk through every possible aspect of the details, making sure to prepare for closeup and detailed shots within the chosen setting, that I might not have released the creative juices of both the models and photographers that became part of the final result I obtained on my shoots – both from super close to zoom out views.

In the end, perhaps the most fun for me on each and every photoshoot, is the “action” in the moment.  Being there to tie, turn, swivel, adjust lengths, re-tie, help battle the wind that just picked-up, assist the photographer in adjusting something her, or his eye has caught, and cheering on the amazing emotions our models have been able to feel and control…despite all the distraction of our fussing!  There is just nothing like showtime!  We’ve got a set amount of time, and all of our planning has now come to play. It’s like a living painting that we are creating, and we are putting all of our feelings into that moment.  It think everyone who has ever created a photoshoot understands the pulse of those moments being captured. There is just nothing else like it, I suppose, which is why we love it!

The “Stole” "Stole Wrap” and “Stole Cape” share a long, elegant history

Picture
The elegant inspiration of a flowing Stole as a formal wrap of expensive fabric wrapped around the shoulders over a long dress or ballgown, created from silk or natural fabric, and of a length long enough to be draped across either shoulders, or around arms or neck has survived in all cultures throughout the ages.

A
Stole Wrap is typically narrower than a Shawl, and of simpler construction than a Stole Cape, and is typically worn loosely around the shoulders. Lighter materials such as silk and chiffon are simply finished or cropped, hemmed and bound.  Heavier materials such as fur and brocade are typically lined.  A Silk Stole is essentially a small version of a ladies’ Stole, made of silk. Though these garments or accessories aren’t always made of silk, they are typically manufactured with similar quality fabrics.

A
Stole can also mean a fur or set of furs.  For formal wear, a finished length of fur using pelts from more than one animal is worn over a suit, dress or gown.  In this case, the word Stole stands alone or is used in combination: Fur Stole, Mink Stole.  A Stole is typically narrower than a Cape or Wrap.  The Fur Stole is kept fastened and held together at the front of the collar. Unlike a Silk Stole or Shawl, which is wrapped loosely around a lady’s shoulders and occasionally the neck, a Fur Stole is manufactured to fit the body more snugly

Similar to a Shawl, the Stole Cape typically uses more material length and covers more of the upper body. Also occasionally referred to as a Stole Wrap, the Stole Cape is likely to be found in a wide array of materials and colors, but the most common type of Stole Cape is typically made of fur.  Some popular dressy styles of Stole Capes might include ostrich feathers, marabou, or other material. The feathers can come in various colors, although black, brown and white are generally the most commonly seen.

In addition to making an elegant fashion statement, all types of Stoles have been used to show respect while in a church or in a formal setting, such as for a Wedding, where it might be inappropriate to display bare shoulders or a low-cut gown.

Historically,
Stoles were considered ceremonial dress worn for special occasions or at formal events such as weddings, coronations, graduations, parades, religious rites and galas.  Besides the Wedding Dress, throughout history the formal dress code of ceremonial dress has included the Ermine-lined Cloak, Crown and Septer of a King or Queen, Tribal Dress, Suit of Armor, Military Dress, Liturgical Robe, Graduation Gown, and Robe and Wig worn by British judges.  The Stole as an ecclesiastical vestment consisted of a narrow strip of silk or other material worn over the shoulders or, by deacons, over the left shoulder only, and arranged to hang down in front to the knee or below.  The Stole as a long robe was worn by the matrons of Ancient Rome.

The lithograph plate posted here showing a variety of ways of wearing shawls in early 19th-century France (ca. 1802-1814), is redrawn from various early 19th-century sources by Durin for
Albert Charles Auguste Racinet's Le Costume Historique (1888), and shows the myriad, exquisite ways the Silk Stole Wrap has been worn over the ages.

Author - Who is White Stole's Stylist?

Even though I am no star, no famous person, nor celebrity, in my own sense of who I am I know full well that accessories can be enough to glamorize my style – whether my shoes, my bag, my hat, gloves, belt, earrings… or the Stole, Scarf or Shawl I wrap my always-chilly shoulders in!
